At Intermix’s Party for Rag and Bone, Marcus Wainwright Claims: ‘I Feel Comfortable in Harem Pants’

On the evening of Wednesday, July 29, the model Jessica Stam hosted a party at the Breslin bar in the Ace Hotel to celebrate the arrival of the label Rag and Bone at the Intermix boutique chain. “This was absolutely a collection that we fell in love with,” Intermix’s founder, Khajak Keledjian, told the Transom  “They do what we do: downtown edgy with uptown polish. You don’t find collections like that too often.”

“It’s exciting!” said Marcus Wainwright, one half of the Rag and Bone design team. “It’s the right time. … I think in this economy, it’s great for a girl to be able to get an incredibly beautiful outfit but not for, like, 10 grand.” Any style tips for summer? “If you feel comfortable in harem pants, wear harem pants. If you don’t, don’t. It’s all about feeling comfortable in yourself. I feel comfortable in harem pants, physically, but it’s about you!” Phew!

Mr. Wainwright’s partner, David Neville, was talking to Ms. Stam, the inspiration for Marc Jacobs ubiquitous four-figure leather satchel.“I had no idea it was going to be so popular,” said the model, who’s also the face of Bulgari. How has she been handling summer style? “I’ve been wearing long flowy dresses, not many accessories, maybe a little stud earring, a watch, something simple.”

Also present was Gossip Girl’s Michelle Trachtenberg. “I’m really liking incorporating color in my accessories,” she said, flashing hot pink nails. “I love like a hot pink clutch—that’s pretty fun. I wear so much, like, dark colors, that it’s important to break it up.” But: “It’s so hard to think summer when it’s such a torrential downpour outside.”
