‘Did You Get Your Raise Yet?’

ALBANY—It's staff-shuffling time at an otherwise quiet capitol, with the news of the hiring of Pedro Espada Jr.'s son to a $120,000-a-year job dominating water-cooler talk.

A staffer forwarded me the below e-mail, which references the Times Union's reporting on who's getting raises.

ATTENTION SENATE STAFFERS

SENATE LEADERSHIP IS GIVING AWAY MILLIONS IN RAISES…ACT NOW BEFORE YOU MISS OUT!!

Dare to dream, ladies and gentlemen. Have you been concerned that your lack of a degree, experience, and qualifications will limit your career potential? WORRY NO MORE!

It's almost time to start working on that state budget thing, and the State Senate leadership wants YOU.

It's easy:

Just update those resumes (if you can write, if not, just make something up; points earned for creativity), and you too can suckle the public teat. Like these people…

- Pedro Espada, the son; a newly created and unnecessary $120k position

- Selvena Brooks; $30k raise to $90k

- Edward Irizarry; $15k raise to $95k

- Celeste Knight; $22k raise to over $70k

- Steve Pigeon; $150k for a new position
