LL Cool J, Hammer on Paterson’s 2000-Pound Weight; Allan Houston on Momentum

ALBANY—David Paterson's campaign put together this video montage of birthday wishes from people who attended the governor's fund-raiser earlier this year.

It's pretty remarkable: full of celebrities sending the governor their regards in a tone that's less Happy Birthday than Get Well Soon.

"I love you," Senate President Malcolm Smith, who brought Paterson a cake when he turned 55, said. "And just know that every decision that you've made thus far has put New York right back where it needs to be as the Empire State."

Rap artist LL Cool Jay introduced Paterson at his event, saying, "I think he'll be fine. I think it'll work out. When you're laying on the weight bench and you inherit 2,000 pounds, it takes a bit to move it off your chest."

"LL made a great statement earlier," MC Hammer said to the camera, which followed Tiffany Roberts around the room. "He says if, you know, you're going to lift weights and somebody puts 2,000 pounds on your chest, it'd take a minute to adjust and get that off. It couldn't be framed any better than that. I was just saying that I appreciate his courage and his strength, and having shoulders strong enough to take on the task of being a blessing to this state."

"Anytime he calls me, I'm here for him," Carmelo Anthony, the former Syracuse University forward, said.

Former Knick Allan Houston said, "We know that you need a lot of momentum right here and we're here to support you."
