Obama Raises for Owens

ALBANY—Here's the invitation to the fundraiser Barack Obama will hold for Bill Owens, the Democratic Party's candidate to replace John McHugh in Congress.

This is pretty significant. Vice President Joe Biden has already attended a fundraiser for Owens in Syracuse, marking a level of White House involvement that was not seen in the special election to replace Kirsten Gillibrand in the 20th Congressional District. It comes on the same night Obama is having a fundraiser for the DNC in New York City, but is a major coup.

The required amount is $4,800, which is interesting because it presumes Owens will be involved in a Democratic Primary in 2010 (only $2,400 per person can be spent on his efforts this special election). The event is limited to 50 people.
