State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck), the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor:

“Tonight, Governor Corzine demonstrated clearly that he is the candidate who will fight for what matters to New Jersey in these tough economic times. He’s fought every day for New Jersey families- expanding health care coverage for almost 100,000 additional children and passing paid family leave. These are the right choices for New Jersey and the right priorities for the next four years. Chris Christie, on the other hand, is more concerned with tax breaks for giant corporations and the very wealthy than fighting for average middle class New Jersey families. Twelve days from today New Jerseyans across this state will re-elect Governor Corzine andreject the right wing Republican policies offered by Chris Christie.”

Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains), the Republican State Chairman:

“This debate shows us once again the difference among the three candidates. Governor Corzine and Chris Daggett want to continue taking New Jersey down the same, failed path of higher taxes and more spending. While New Jersey is suffering from its worst unemployment in 33 years, the highest property taxes in the country and the highest tax burden in the nation, Governor Corzine and Mr. Daggett have promised nothing more than an extension of the same disastrous, high-tax policies that got us into this mess. We are 12 days from Election Day and Chris Christie is still the only candidate with a plan to cut spending and bring tax relief to our families. Chris showed us once again that he understands the pain felt by New Jerseyans and that he has the right vision and plan to move New Jersey forward.”

Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-Union), the Democratic State Chairman:

“In tonight’s debate, Governor Corzine demonstrated that he is fighting for what matters to New Jersey families and making the tough decisions to get the economy back on track. The global economic crisis facing this nation and New Jersey was caused by the Bush policies of tax breaks for giant corporations and the wealthiest, which have only increased the burden on the middle class. Unfortunately, those are exactly the policies that Chris Christie wants to impose on New Jersey during this crisis. Governor Corzine is the only candidate in this race who is fighting to expand health care for children, who has cut spending while investing in education, and who will work with President Obama to implement recovery plans aimed at saving and creating small business jobs in New Jersey.”

State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos (R-Middletown):

“Chris Christie made clear his plans to bring a better and more hopeful future New Jersey by cutting taxes and wasteful spending and bringing jobs back to our state. Both Jon Corzine and Chris Daggett have promised more of the same high taxes and uncontrolled spending. Both Governor Corzine and Daggett have stated they would raise taxes and have not put forth a clear plan for reducing the tax burden on New Jerseyans. Chris is the only candidate in this race committed to restoring fiscal discipline to Trenton and lowering New Jerseyans’ taxes.”

State Sen. Bill Baroni (R-Hamilton):

“Tonight, Chris Christie reaffirmed his positive vision and plan to get our state back on track. Chris has shown he will engage New Jersey’s most pressing problems – our heavy tax burden, stumbling economy, and record unemployment – with strong leadership and resolve. Chris’ plan is simple: cut wasteful spending, provide tax relief for our families and struggling businesses, recharge our economy, and make New Jersey affordable again for our families. Our state faces serious challenges now and in the future; and as we’ve seen throughout this campaign, Chris Christie has the leadership, policies, and determination to lead us back to prosperity.”

Assembly Minority Leader Alex DeCroce (R-Parsippany):

“Under Jon Corzine, New Jersey has jumped to the highest unemployment in the region, suffered hundreds of thousands of jobs losses and had the country’s worst business tax climate each of the last four years. Now Governor Corzine and Chris Daggett are both promising to inflict more pain by continuing the same failed economic policies that have crippled our economy – higher taxes to fund more government spending. Tonight, Chris Christie made another compelling case for his candidacy. He is the only candidate that has pledged to cut taxes and put an end to the failed policies of the past. He will restore responsibility, accountability, and fiscal sanity to New Jersey government. We need Chris Christie as our next Governor.”

State Sen. Teresa Ruiz (D-Newark):

“Tonight’s debate showed that the stakes of this election could not be higher for New Jersey. Governor Corzine has a plan to move our state forward and he articulated his vision tonight. On healthcare, the economy, and education, Governor Corzine is tirelessly fighting for what matters most to New Jersey families while his opponent just tries to score political points. Governor Corzine proved again that he is the right man for the job and we should re-elect him on November 3rd.”

State Sen. Jennifer Beck (R-Red Bank):

“The key issue for New Jerseyans in this election remains the crippling tax burden we suffer under every day. While Governor Corzine and Chris Daggett have both promised billions in tax increases, Chris Christie’s priority is to deliver the tax relief we so desperately need. Chris has the vision and leadership to bring back our state. Chris’ policies will revive our economy and provide a clean break from the special-interests dominating politics-as-usual in Trenton. New Jersey’s best days are certainly still ahead of us with Chris Christie as our Governor.”
