Conlin Confident Gillibrand Would Have Corrected Schumer

Kirsten Gillibrand is getting some criticism for not speaking up when Chuck Schumer turned to her and referred to a stewardess as a “bitch.”

It’s not unlike the criticism Bill Thompson faced when, at a public event he organized, one speaker referred to Christine Quinn as a “whore.”

One person critical of Thompson at the time was Kelli Conlin, president of NARAL Pro-Choice New York.

In a telephone interview just now, Conlin said Gillibrand might not have heard Schumer’s remark, but if she did, probably would have corrected him.

“I have a hard time envisioning a circumstance with Gilibrand hearing Chuck call a woman this horrible name and she’s keeping her head down,” Conlin said. “If she had heard it, I’m sure she would have said something privately to him about it.”

Conlin also downplayed the incident, saying Schumer “let his emotions get the best of him, and he’s since apologized and we need to move on.”
