Two related actions this week: Gov. Jon Corzine renominated Carl Goldberg for another term on the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, and Gov.-elect Christopher Christie told The Record editorial board that he believed the sports authority is in "bad shape." The conventional wisdom is that Goldberg is a goner. He lives in Morris County, where the two Republican Senators are unlikely to sign off on his renomination. And Christie, if you buy into the whole "hold me accountable" thing, won't reappoint him. Goldberg gets to stay until the replacement Christie picks gets confirmed by the Senate – a process that could move slowly.
The same thing goes for Steven Plofker, also nominated to the Sports Authority by Corzine. Plofker lives in Essex County, where Republican Senator Kevin O'Toole can block him.
