Middlesex County Democratic Committee Chairman Joe Spicuzzo said he is not immediately prepared to endorse a candidate for senate in the 14th District – but he believes Democrats can win in the classic swing-zone.
“I feel good because we have an excellent opportunity to elect a Democrat,” Spicuzzo said, moments after Gov. Chris Christie announced his selection of state Sen. Bill Baroni (R-Hamilton) to run the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which would set up a special election in November of 2010.
Spicuzzo said he doesn’t know if he will schedule the District 14 issue at the county party organization’s March 14th convention.
“I don’t know what the time frame is or what our obligations are, but we can take over a Democratic seat,” said the chairman.
He stopped short of endorsing the mIddlesex-based Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro) over Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (D-Hamilton).
“I think an awful lot of Linda,” Spicuzzo said. “We will have to meet with my fellow chair from Mercer County to discuss this matter, and at this time I’m not prepared to say that I would endorse Linda over Wayne. I think a lot of Linda Greenstein and Wayne DeAngelo and we’ll meet with everybody to see what’s best for the party.”
