Speaking last night at as part of the French Institute Alliance Française Fashion Talks Series, Marc Jacobs espoused a combination of natural-beauty rah-rah and Debbie Downerism.
“I don’t find clothes sexy at all,” he said, according to New York. “I find people sexy, and I find personalities fascinating and sexy and appealing and charming. So a sexy girl wrapped in a sheet is a sexy girl, and an un-sexy girl in a low-cut dress is still an un-sexy girl.”
- “I would rather design frumpwear than sexythings.”
- “The fantasies of consumption are just that: fantasies. Nothing you buy will change who you are, and although my livelihood depends upon the sale of luxury goods, I feel honor-bound to acknowledge this truth.”
- “Too bad, un-sexy ladies.”
