McMahon Applauds Rangel

Democratic Rep. Mike McMahon, who represents a relatively conservative district covering Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, applauded Rep. Charlie Rangel’s move to step down temporarily as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee–though the statement reads sort of like Rangel is leaving public service.

McMahon:

“When the history of his career is written, Charlie Rangel will be remembered for breaking barriers, being a strong voice for the people of this country, and always fighting for the people of New York as the chair of the Committee on Ways and Means.  Like all good fighters, Charlie knows when to pull a punch and his temporary stepping down is  the right thing to do until the Ethics Committee finishes their work and gives its report and recommendations to the entire House.”
