On Saturday, March 27th, I will be attending the Americans For Prosperity Right Online in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. Americans For Prosperity in New Jersey is directed by Steve Longman, Gov. Christie’s lone conservative opponent in last year’s gubernatorial primary on the Republican side.

Last year in Pittsburgh, I attended the Right Online conference put on by the national Americans For Prosperity organization — — they are I got a chance to meet Michelle Malkin, Joe the Plumber, and Grover Norquist. This year’s conference does not have such a stellar group attending, but conservatives’ political strategists Phil Kerpin and Tim Phillips are listed as speakers — — along with Steve Lonegan himself.

Late yesterday afternoon, I received an email from Steve Lonegan inviting me to debate Michael Illions, of the blog Conservatives With Attitude. Steve wrote in his e-mail, “It will be the opportunity of a lifetime.” How could I resist such outstanding offer as that — — the opportunity to not only attend the Americans For Prosperity conference but actually sit on a panel — — or debate — — and get an opportunity to present myself — — an ACLU board member, Garden State Equality board member, former Democratic chairman of Hunterdon County, an elected official in Flemington — — to the largest gathering of conservatives so far this year in New Jersey. Oh what fun!

The “debate” will be moderated by conservative pollster Rick Shaftan, and will be in front of an audience of all right wing conservatives and, will be streamed over the Internet. I don’t mind so much really, I think the experience will be exhilarating. As a comedian, I have faced hostile audiences before — — and even have had things thrown at me — — everything from fruit to beer bottles. I think the right-wingers will be more well-behaved than that — — hopefully. But after the passage of the health care bill, who knows? In Washington, Congressman John Lewis received racial threats — — Congressman Barney Frank was called a “fag”.  I figure I will feel like the Red Sox coming to Yankee Stadium with only seven players, and with George Steinbrenner as the umpire.

So, if you’re interested in coming by and cheering me on, the conference is at the Holiday Inn in Saddle Brook from 9 AM to 5 PM — — I go on at 11:30 for 30 mimutes. Here’s the link to the event. Wish me luck!
