American Media, which had something of a confusing 2009—withstanding a near brush with bankruptcy while publishing a Pulitzer-contending National Enquirer series of exposés on the philandering would-be veep John Edwards—is looking for a real estate broker.
“We’re in the super, super, super-preliminary phases,” American Media Inc. spokeswoman Samantha Trenk told The Commercial Observer. “We haven’t yet selected an architecture firm or a broker.”
Ms. Trenk wouldn’t reveal precisely how much space the media giant, which also owns Men’s Fitness, Star, Shape and Country Weekly, is hunting for. But she did say that the firm’s lease at One Park Avenue, owned by Murray Hill Properties, expires next year. Right now, the firm has space on two floors, totaling nearly 25,000 square feet, according to real estate database CoStar.
Media Wire Daily, an industry blog, first reported the incipient office hunt late last week, posting a March 24 staff memo from American Media chairman and CEO David Pecker. It reads, in part: “[W]e are in the process of looking at other locations and developing a space plan. We will need your input as we will be looking to upgrade from the current space and will provide you all with the most functional work environment possible.”
