Fundraising down 19% in May elections

Contributions to candidates in the May non-partisan municipal elections are down 19% from the same point four years ago, according to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. Candidates in 33 municipalities have raised a total of $11.3 million — $2.6 million less than in 2006.  Candidates in Newark, where Mayor Cory Booker is seeking a second term, have raised $9.1 million – more than 60% of the total amount raised in all the towns.

More than $100,000 has been raised in total by candidates in Paterson ($973k), Bayonne ($429k), Trenton ($209k), Long Branch ($141k), and West Orange ($113k).
