Buildings Department Goes After Shepard Fairey Mural

98589214 Buildings Department Goes After Shepard Fairey MuralThe Shepard Fairey mural on East Houston appears to be coming down, according to Animal NY (by way of the Journal‘s new Metropolis blog).

On May 1, the Department of Buildings issued a stop work order for the mural–which promotes Mr. Fairey’s May Day show at the Deitch Gallery.

The work order says the structure was done without a permit. Or, as Metropolis summed it up: “Your Pop Art quasi-communist mural on East Houston Street is both illegal and and an advertisement, and it’s time to take it down.”
