Letterman Blackmailer Off to Jail

Robert Joel “Joe” Halderman, the would-be blackmailer of many names and few criminal wiles, began his jail sentence today. He received six months for attempting to extort $2 million from David Letterman.

Halderman had defended himself by claiming that he was just trying to sell Letterman the rights to a compelling story about a late-night comedian having office affairs. Predictably, this defense did not work, and he accepted a plea deal.
