32BJ Backs Francisco Moya in Queens

Building service workers union SEIU 32BJ endorsed Francisco Moya in his race for the 13th district Assembly seat in Queens today.

The 70,000-member union proved its strength in the district in the spring, when it poured, by its telling, more than $60,000 into the district to help elect then-Assemblyman Jose Peralta to the Senate seat vacated by Hiram Monserrate.

For Mr. Moya, the last year has been a case of Monserrate musical chairs.

He lost a race for Hiram Monserrate’s former City Council seat last year, and was mentioned as a possible replacement for Mr. Monserrate’s Senate seat before Mr. Peralta emerged as the front-runner. So, Mr. Moya is now vying for Mr. Peralta’s old Assembly seat.

The race could pit the union against Mr. Monserrate once again, should anything come of rumors that he’ll challenge Mr. Moya.
