Newsweek‘s move back to midtown from its Hudson Street offices has been delayed until the magazine is sold, according to Memo Pad. Newsweek SVP of operations Joseph Galarneau announced the news in a memo to the staff yesterday. The Washington Post Co. would rather not spend money on the move from 395 Hudson Street to 888 Seventh Avenue, since the new owner will likely move the magazine into different offices. Delaying the move will also put less stress on the staff, well, sort of. The magazine’s remaining staffers will be consolidated into one floor instead of two, and construction will begin on the empty floor to ready the space for the Washington Post Co.’s Kaplan Inc., which will move in before the end of the year. All told, that’s less space, more noise and mounting anxiety about a new owner, not to mention a weekly magazine to put out.
