Daniel Halpern of Ecco has bought the rights to cookbooks by two New York chefs, April Bloomfield and Andrew Carmellini, as announced today on Publishers Marketplace (subscription only). Bloomfield was represented by JJ Goode and Luke Janklow of Janklow & Nesbit, Carmellini by Gwen Hyman (his wife) and Kim Witherspoon of Inkwell Management.
Bloomfield, of The Spotted Pig and The Breslin, is known for her lavishly fatty English comfort food—at the Ace Hotel, she’s “exhausting gallbladders nightly,” wrote Sam Sifton in his Breslin review. Fittingly, her book will be called A Girl and Her Pig, and promises “a window into her journey” as well as recipes. This is Bloomfield’s first book.
Carmellini—the James Beard Award-winner behind Locanda Verde—published Urban Italian in 2008. His new book, American Flavors, will show off his “very American roots” and “big-city palate.”
