Robert “Joe” Halderman, the man currently serving a six-month sentence for trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman, was nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy this afternoon. He was one of the four producers who worked on the 48 Hours segment “American Girl, Italian Nightmare,” which concerns the Amanda Knox trial. The segment is up for an award in “Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story in a News Magazine.”
The awards will be announced on Sept. 27, so by our math Mr. Halderman will not be attending the ceremony.
Halderman’s post-CBS life has been fairly interesting, though. Last month, the Times posted a charming video of him settling into his new position of prison librarian.
