Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is endorsing Gary Berntsen’s campaign for the U.S. Senate.
“After getting to know Gary and his positions on domestic and foreign policy issues I am very happy to endorse Gary in his effort to defeat Chuck Schumer,” said Bachmann in a release.
“Gary’s record of public service and leadership in the military and intelligence communities is impressive. Gary’s story clearly shows his dedication to our country. He rose from being an Air Force fire fighter to leader of CIA’s paramilitary operations in Afghanistan that resulted in the defeat of the Taliban government after the 9/11 attacks.”
Berntsen met with the congresswoman in D.C. last week, according to his campaign.
The decision bolsters Berntsen’s Tea Party bona fides as he tries to lock up the Republican nomination next month. Bachmann is a darling of the Tea Party cause and has taken it upon herself to become something of a de facto leader, forming a Tea Party Caucus in Congress.
But the proudly disparate movement doesn’t always follow her lead, as Bachmann’s endorsement in Missouri proved last week.
