“We’re not happy with ourselves,” Nina Tassler, the president of CBS entertainment, told reporters last week.
Ms. Tassler is not happy because her network has been receiving failing grades from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation for not showing enough gays and lesbian characters in its programming. But there is hope yet! Ms. Tassler found space for two gays and a lesbian in her lineup — The Good Wife (+1 gay), Rules of Engagement (+1 lesbian) and $#*! My Dad Says (+ 1 gay) — when she realized none of her new programming would help fix the problem.
Glaad is happy to take credit for the changes. Rashad Robinson, the group’s director of media programs, told The New York Times: “I think this was part of the ongoing pressure that we’ve kept on CBS.”
