The Post reports that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation is interested in buying the Texas Rangers. The theory goes that News Corp — which owned the Dodgers for one rather unforgettable seven year run from 1998 to 2004 — would like to offset the broadcasting fees it pays the Rangers to air their games on television (they pay $35 million a year to air Rangers games on Fox Sports Southwest) so they might as well buy the team while it it’s available in a bankruptcy court auction. Other interested bidders include Mark Cuban and former Rangers great Nolan Ryan. Bids will start at $307 million.
