With a hat tip to Maggie Haberman at Politico, here’s video from Rick Lazio’s appearance on NewsHour last night, wherein he debates Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin of Teaneck, New Jersey about–what else?–the planned cultural center and mosque in Lower Manhattan.
The mayor doesn’t pull too many punches, accusing Lazio of making it a campaign issue because it polls well and might be a good way to raise money. Lazio responds with his refrain on the issue: that it’s not about religion, that he’s distrustful of the Imam who’s planning the project, and that he’s simply calling on Attorney General Andrew Cuomo–who happens to be his gubernatorial opponent–to investigate the project’s funding.
The debate starts just after the 3:00 mark.
