The Summer of Skittish Bank Robbers

It was just two weeks ago that a flower deliveryman robbed Capital One bank and the Bank of Smithtown in Chelsea by hiding his demand notes in bouquets of flowers. Edward Pemberton, 44, who told the New York Daily News, “The flowers show I’m polite…I’m a good person”, was arrested on July 21.

Meanwhile two more bank robberies have been reported in the New York area, though neither executed successfully.

On July 23, around 2:40 p.m. a lady thief attempted to rob the Bank of America near Marcy Avenue in Williamsburg, but fled towards Havemeyer when the teller refused to hand over cash, reports the Brooklyn Paper. She is described as 5’2″, 135 pounds, and between 20 and 35 years old, wearing a black Yankees cap, a gray Rocawear sweatshirt, and a Coach bag.

Another attempted bank robbery occurred in East Harlem the next day, July 24, at a Chase bank on West 145th Street, according to the New York Post. Around 9:30 a.m., the thief passed an index card to the teller that read, “Don’t panic and no one gets hurt. You have 15 seconds to fill this bag with money, 50s & 100s. Please don’t fucking test me!!!” The thief then said, “Don’t move or I’ll blow your head off.” But when the teller moved slowly and made him nervous, the man fled empty-handed.
