Which States Host The Most Competitive Gubernatorial Races?

Not New York.

But it’s surprisingly close. According to a new study out by Smart Politics at the University of Minnesota, New York has the tenth most competitive races for governor since 1900, with an average victory margin of 11 percentage points.  The elections of 2002 and 2006 may have inflated the Empire State’s numbers a bit, and if polls are to be believed, 2010 will do the same.
