It’s been a few decades since Jane Holzer‘s Warhol-muse alter-ego Baby Jane has livened the environs of the downtown art scene. In the interim, the eccentric sexagenarian has shifted her focus to real estate, livening the Upper East Side instead of The Factory. Ms. Holzer’s latest feat is the $13.15 million sale of a handsome five-story townhouse at 109 East 69th Street.
Baby Jane purchased the brownstone in March of 2008 for $10.5 million and, after 18 months of extensive renovations and redecoration, relisted the 11-room abode for $17 million. The Real Estalker noted the home’s $1.1 million pricechop in March of this year, shortly before it went off the market entirely. Now, according to city records, the 20-foot-wide mansion has sold to a Dirco Properties Inc. According to Streeteasy, the home is currently available for rent for $48,000 per month, tuppence too trivial to purchase even a second-rate Warhol.
Questions remain: Who is trying to rent the handsome manse? The deed was dated Sept. 7, while the Sotheby’s rental listing went up on Sept. 9. Is it possible Dirco Properties turned a listing around that quickly? Sotheby’s agent Sybille Novack, who has the rental listing, told The Observer she had been given instructions not to speak to the press, leaving it unclear whether Ms. Holzer was the prospective lessor or if the honcho behind Dirco Properties was chomping at the rental bit, already listing the townhouse for rent.
