For over a week, a Lacoste white tank has wreaked havoc all over the Open.
I took a trip to Armstrong this afternoon and noticed that in the doubles match of Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta v. Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova, three of the four players are wearing the white Lacoste tank. Three of the four! I can’t remember who’s who. It feels like Wimbledon! Guilty parties include Dulko, King and Shvedova. Props go to Flavia Pennetta for being the only player who decided to wear something that wasn’t white, and something that wasn’t Lacoste (she’s got a purple and pink number on from Adidas).
On Day 1, we noticed that Sam Stosur and Elena Vesnina came to the match with the same white tank Lacoste outfit, which has now, evidently, spread its way to the doubles game. Stosur lost the first set in that match, and maybe that had something to do with the fact that the person across the net was wearing the exact same thing. Stosur has only dropped a set since and I’d argue it’s no coincidence that her winning streak happened at the same point she dropped the white tank in exchange for a purple one. She plays Kim Clijsters tonight and we hope she keeps the Purple People Eater look alive.
