It turns out that if you’re having trouble selling your apartment, the stars may indeed be aligned against you.
Bruce Bueno de Mesquita, a computer science professor, found himself unable to sell a sprawling $2.75 million Edwardian house because the street number, 104, translates into “You Will Die” in Chinese numerology, The New York Times reports.
Mr. Mesquita moved to New York, and the house was still sitting on the market, so his broker, Kevin Ho, paid City Hall a $270 fee in order to change the number to 102.
The professor’s house still hasn’t sold. Now, Mr. Mesquita blames it on the “moribund” credit market. We tend to agree.
