George Soros, the billionaire investor prone to throwing money at the left, will give $1 million to Media Matters, the liberal watchdog organization with the mission of combating conservative voices in the press, The Caucus blog at The New York Times reports.

In a statement, Media Matters described in dramatic fashion the problems that Soros' funding may help stave off.

Fox has transformed itself into a 24-7 G.O.P. attack machine, dividing Americans through fear-mongering and falsehoods and undermining the legitimacy of our government for partisan political ends.

Right-wingers have often jumped on the relationship between Media Matters and Soros as its benefactor. Media Matter denies Soros is pulling any strings. Glenn Beck accused the group of being a "left-wing George Soros-funded media machine" and claimed it called him a jihadist. So many media "machines," so little time to rage against them.

The announcement may give left-leaning politicos some relief. Earlier this month, Soros announced he would not be contributing the Democratic campaigns this election season, citing a Republican "avalanche" that he's "in no position to stop."
