Break out those funky black glasses! The brand new Architecture and Design Film Festival is coming to Tribeca Cinemas this weekend. The name pretty much says it all -- 41 shorts and features about the people and projects that surround us every day and shape our world, making our lives better without us even noticing. The festival begins tonight and runs through Sunday.

Festival founder Kyle Bergman (no relation to Ingmar -- we think) told WNYC the idea is to get away from the typical conception of architecture films -- a ton of cool buildings like Blade Runner and AI -- and instead to feature films that focus on design itself. "The focus of the festival is to talk about the creative spirit of architecture and design," Bergman said. "It's a great opportunity for the professional community and those interested in it to come together in a fun and educational way."

Hopefully that doesn't sound too boring, as there are a number of reviting, yes riveting, films on offer, including a beautiful biopic about the unparalleled photographer Julius Shulman, a heartbreaking one about gentleman designer and poverty architect Samuel Mockbee, even one about an aluminum chair. Be you architecture geek or design neophyte, the festival's trailer below should give you goosebumps. If not, check your pulse.
