Last night in Santiago, Chile, the Pixies decided to play 33 songs for the 33 rescued miners in what was apparently their longest-ever concert. They even played two additional songs for the encore, and a spokesperson for the band said the show lasted almost 2 hours.
If you’re a fan, or you’ve done the math, you know that Pixies songs aren’t very long, but it was more about the spirit of the thing. “We found out five minutes before we went on stage that all of the miners had safely reached the surface,” frontman Black Francis said in a press release. ”This was definitely one of the most meaningful show we’ve ever played.” For any interested parties, they did play “Dig For Fire.”
The video below isn’t especially high quality, much like Black Francis’ Spanish, but you can tell that emotions are running high.
