Facebook made a major mobile announcement today — and no it’s not a new phone.
The key is single sign-on, which lets mobile users log in once with their Facebook username and password. After that, users can enter any mobile app by simply clicking a “login with Facebook” button.
This gives third-party developers the ability to easily add a powerful social layer to their apps, Groupon, which got some valuable onstage time at the demo, said it was incredibly easy to integrate, only a few minutes of coding.
In return for this easy addition of the world’s most powerful social layer, Facebook gets access to an incredible new amount of user activity about everything from gaming to shopping.
It’s classic Zuckerburg, a powerful pivot from app to platform, but this time in the mobile space.
