Lil Wayne Is Released From Rikers, Has Bill Clinton’s Support

Rapper Lil’ Wayne Carter was released from Rikers Island this morning after an eight-month incarceration for possession of a weapon. His release marks the end of a saga marked by stints in solitary confinement, and Sports Illustrated columns.

Yesterday, Bill Clinton made headlines by voicing his support for the rapper, saying, “This guy’s smart, and he’s got ability, and he’s got a new chance now.” It wasn’t clear that President Clinton actually knows who the rapper is, but it’s always nice to hear encouraging words from a former head of state. It’s a little like a scene in a movie: Wayne steps out of the prison gates and is mobbed by reporters who shout, “Mr. Carter, Mr. Carter, Bill Clinton sends his best wishes, do you have a response?” as flashbulbs pop around them.

In other presidential pop culture news, George W. Bush, in his memoir, says Guantanamo Bay isn’t so bad because “there’s an Arabic translation of ‘Harry Potter’” in the library.

Mr. Carter is expected to begin work on his new album Tha Carter IV shortly after his release.
