Not only has the modern classicist built the Best Building Ever in 15 Central Park West, which broke yet another record last week, but now he has bragging rights downtown too, where his Superior Ink Building has just nailed the highest price for a single apartment building on Manhattan's southern side. (We--continue--to smell a trend.)

In 2008, Leslie Alexander, owner of the Houston Rockets basketball team, went into contract on the two penthouses at the West 12th Street building while it was still under construction, paying $25 million. He had plans for something grand, according to The Journal, but decided instead to put the combined units on the market a week after closing in 2009. The asking price? A whopping $39.5 million.

The price was derided, especially since the apartment was unfinished, but it has now sold to a mysterious foreign buyer for $31.5 million or $4,983 per square foot for the Hudson-facing spread, according to a release from the buyer's broker, Melanie Lazenby, who also happens to be a resident of the building. Mr. Alexander was represented by Dolly Lenz.
