Charlie Rangel headlined a GOTV rally in Washington Heights yesterday, in which he exhorted locals not just to send Andrew Cuomo to Albany but to elect Democrats up and down the ticket.
“We don’t have a problem with people not voting the Democratic Party,” Rangel said of the neighborhood. “We don’t have a threat of people voting for Republicans, we do have a major problem of people not getting up and going to the polls.”
He stumbled a bit though when he was making the case for Tom DiNapoli, when he seemed to momentarily forget the incumbent comptroller’s name.
For his part, DiNapoli said he felt good:
“Upstate’s traditionally a Republican area so that just generally is a tougher area for Democrats. In the city, Staten Island is probably the most Republican but we’re doing well there too. I just got endorsed by the Staten Island Advance last week, so we’re doing pretty well,” DiNapoli said. “But it’s not over til the people come out and vote.”
