If Christine O’Donnell is in fact a witch, now would be a good time to fly on out of here.
According to the AP, federal authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the failed Delaware Republican Senate candidate, looking at whether or not she broke the law by using campaign funds to pay personal expenses.
O’Donnell is something of a perennial candidate, having run for office in Delaware three times since 2006. She raised a state record $7.3 million this time out, but has been dogged by questions of whether or not she is using these political campaigns as her personal piggy bank.
In September, soon after she upset Mike Castle in the G.O.P. primary, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington called for a federal investigation.
“Christine O’Donnell is clearly a criminal, and like any crook she should be prosecuted,” Melanie Sloan, CREW Executive Director, said then. “Ms. O’Donnell has spent years embezzling money from her campaign to cover her personal expenses. Republicans and Democrats don’t agree on much these days, but both sides should agree on one point: thieves belong in jail not the United States Senate.”
