Another loss for the New York Times this week: SundayBusiness editor Tim O'Brien has left to become National Editor at The Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington announced this afternoon. O'Brien will oversee politics and culture reporters as well as contributing to business coverage with Executive Business Editor Peter S. Goodman.

"His demonstrated ability to lead a team of journalists and his dedication to holding powerful institutions to account make him an ideal fit for The Huffington Post," Huffington said in a statement.

At the Times, O'Brien oversaw the Pulitzer-finalist series "The Reckoning" about the roots of the financial crisis. He is writing historical thrillers for RandomHouse and has written books about Donald Trump and gambling.

O'Brien made this statement:

"I'm very excited to join The Huffington Post and to have the opportunity to work with an enthusiastic, talented and growing team of journalists who have already set new benchmarks in digital media. And I will miss The New York Times, which has been like a second home to me. I'll always have great respect for its traditions."
