O'Brien will oversee politics and culture reporters as well as contributing to business coverage with Executive Business Editor Peter S. Goodman.</p>
<p>"His demonstrated ability to lead a team of journalists and his dedication to holding powerful institutions to account make him an ideal fit for <em>The Huffington Post</em>," Huffington said in a statement.</p>
<p>At the <em>Times</em>, O'Brien oversaw the Pulitzer-finalist series "The Reckoning" about the roots of the financial crisis. He is writing historical thrillers for RandomHouse and has written books about Donald Trump and gambling.</p>
<p>O'Brien made this statement:</p>
<blockquote><p>"I'm very excited to join <em>The Huffington Post </em>and to have the opportunity to work with an enthusiastic, talented and growing team of journalists who have already set new benchmarks in digital media. And I will miss <em>The New York Times,</em> which has been like a second home to me. I'll always have great respect for its traditions."</p>
