propublica logo Prestigious Journo Institutions Join Forces To Continue Not ProfitingInvestigative newsroom ProPublica and the NYU Arthur L. Carter School of Journalism announced a new joint venture today called “The Explainer,” reports FishbowlNY.

“The Explainer” will provide background information on topics in the news.  Graduate students will be writing and editing the explainer site, explainer.net, with the help of ProPublica editors, who will explain to the explainers the best practices of explanation. NYU professor and online media guru Jay Rosen said:

 “An explainer is a work of journalism, but it doesn’t provide the latest news or update you on a story.”

Sounds like a fact-checked Wikipedia article. Combine it with a few good Twitter feeds and you could have yourself a New Media!
