Steve Schwarzman is taking a trip to the City of Lights, Reuters reports, offering clarity to a vague report last week that the Blackstone CEO was going somewhere in Europe, but no one knew exactly where. Says Reuters:
Schwarzman has close ties to France. He knows French President Nicolas Sarkozy well, the source said. He was awarded the Legion d’honneur by former French President Jacques Chirac, according to Blackstone’s website.
Blackstone has an office in the center of Paris, close to the Louvre and the Jardin des Tuileries.
John Carney at CNBC speculates that Schwarzman is soliciting European and Middle Eastern investors for new funds. He’ll be there three to six months, according to Reuters. Maybe he just needs to get away from the pressures of New York, sample some wine along the Seine or brush up on his World War II history.
