The third annual Social Media Week brings dozens of events across New York focused on <a href="http://socialmediaweek.org/newyork/hub/arts-culture/" target="_blank">arts and culture</a>, <a href="http://socialmediaweek.org/newyork/hub/science-technology/" target="_blank">science and technology</a>, <a href="http://socialmediaweek.org/newyork/hub/business-media-communications/" target="_blank">business, media and communications</a>, <a href="http://socialmediaweek.org/newyork/hub/people-society/" target="_blank">people and society</a>&nbsp;and <a href="http://socialmediaweek.org/newyork/hub/entertainment-sports-gaming/" target="_blank">entertainment, gaming and sports</a>.</p>
<p>Most events are free, but it's necessary to register for each one. Almost 6,000 people have <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/smwnyc/status/34332536805003264">registered</a>. "The super bowl of social media starts tomorrow," social media butterfly <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/streetforce1/status/34455076902797312">Mike Street said </a>on Twitter yesterday.</p>
<p>The events that are still open to registration are <a href="http://socialmediaweek.org/newyork/2011/02/05/open-for-registration-smwnyc/">here</a>, but here's a preview of the week's top events and panels that feature NYC companies.</p>
<p>MONDAY</p>
<p>Sustainable Flashmob, Hosted by Foodspotting and Whole Foods Market, 10 a.m.<em> --</em>&nbsp;Featuring dishes prepared by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, prizes, as well as a panel with <strong>Ben Leventhal</strong>, founder of Eater.com and The Feast; <strong>Amanda Hesser</strong>, food columnist at <em>The New York Times </em>and founder of Food52.com; moderated by Foodspotting cofounder <strong>Soraya Darabi</strong>.</p>
<p>The Internet &amp; Uprisings in the Arab World: Are We Already In A Post-Social Media World?, 2 p.m.<em> --</em> Apparently the question at this panel is not, "Does Malcolm Gladwell know what he's talking about," but "Has the notion that social media spurs anyone to action already become boring?" Moderated by <strong>John Abell</strong>, Wired's local bureau chief.</p>
