Bill regarding flying of flags at half-staff clears committee

The Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee Thursday cleared S2434, which pertains to flying the flag at half-staff.

The bill requires that the Governor direct the Adjutant General of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs, upon notification and verification of the death of an active service member who was a state resident, to notify all county and municipal governing bodies of the death, and direct that the United States flag and the State flag be flown at half-staff, within or outside of the public building where the governing body regularly convenes, on the day specified by DMVA.

The Assembly version is A3507.
