Walmart is continuing its local push today with another mass mailing going out to New York City households.
The mailer is designed to take potshots at the politicians who seem intent on keeping the store out of the city, asking those who receive if they want “your rights being taken away.”
On the flip side, the Arkansas-based mega-retailer makes perhaps its most explicit statement of intent yet:
“Walmart wants to come to New York City,” it reads. “And New York City wants Walmart.”
Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who opposes the opening of a Walmart store in the five boroughs, has said that the company has been less-than-honest about whether or not they even want to open a store here.
The ad goes on to say, “Walmart means new jobs, lower prices, giving communities access to healthy, affordable food, and a strong committment to a sustainable future. But a handful of powerful special interests are trying to pressure the City Council to block Walmart from coming here.”
