An upstart candidate for the Assembly in the 33rd Legislative District, Hoboken Councilman Ravi Bhalla plans to formally launch his campaign tomorrow evening in his hometown, two weeks from Election Day.
Bhalla is running against the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO)-backed team of incumbent Assemblyman Ruban Ramos (D-Hoboken) and newcomer Sean Connors, a Jersey City police detective.
“I write to invite you to our official Campaign Kickoff for my candidacy for New Jersey State Assembly and our Hoboken Democratic Committee candidates’ campaign keep fighting for integrity and honest government in Hoboken and Hudson County,” Bhalla told his supporters in an email blast. “Come enjoy food, drinks and hear about why I’m running for State Assembly with the full support of our Mayor, Dawn Zimmer, and why these upcoming races for Democratic Committee are so critical to both Mayor Zimmer’s efforts and the future or Hoboken.”
Ramos is widely viewed as a potential challenger to Zimmer in 2013.
Bhalla reported no money to the state Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) last week, compared to Ramos, who shows just over $7,000 cash on hand.
