A bill that would designate a bridge over the Shrewsbury River in Monmouth County on State Highway No. 36 as the “Captain Joseph Azzolina Memorial Bridge,” was approved Monday in the Assembly Transportation Committee.
The move is in recognition of the life and work of Joseph Azzolina who “served with distinction in the United States Navy and Navy Reserves, as a successful businessman, and as an esteemed member of the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly.” He also served in the General Assembly for more than 20 years.
The bill A2938 has a Senate S2073.
Sen. Jennifer Beck, (R-12), Red Bank, spoke on behalf of the bill as a fitting honor for Azzolina, who passed away in 2010.
