The Observer ventured into Times Square on Sunday night to see the celebration–and a celebration it was, with crowds chanting “Hey hey hey, good-bye” as firemen posed atop a truck, and tourists and residents alike haggling over the price of miniature flags and wondering where they could grab a drink. New York is always New York–there was room for doubt amid the celebration, as well as joy that, as one interviewee told us, the stock market is bound to rise! Times Square’s celebration found New York at its best–or, at least, its most.
