At the Lincoln Center Film Society Gala honoring Sidney Poitier on Monday, James Earl Jones told the Transom that he’d heard about the death of Osama bin Laden from his former employer CNN.
“At first I couldn’t stop watching the wedding over the past few days,” Mr. Jones said (no wonder, given Vera Wang’s fine commentary). “Now I can’t stop watching the accounts of how this happened.”
The Transom asked Sir Ben Kingsley what he thought of the news. He stared off into the distance. “Let’s hope it’s the end of a book,” he said, “not the end of a chapter.”
And what of Inglorious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino?
“I don’t give a fuck about Osama bin Laden,” Mr. Tarantino said.
