Contract range advertising bill clears committee

A bill that would amend advertising and notice provisions of the Local Public Contracts Law and similar laws to require contracting units requesting bids for construction projects to advertise their projected estimates or estimate ranges of the contracts’ costs was approved by the Assembly Transportation Committee Monday.

The bill, A3284, is designed to help ensure greater openness in the bidding process and further ensure careful deliberation before a decision is reached.

A bill, A3123, was approved that would require the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority, in awarding contracts or entering into agreements providing for the operation of service stations dispensing gasoline or diesel fuel along their respective toll roads, to give preference to bidders offering to provide for the operation at these stations of refueling facilities dispensing E85, an alternative fuel containing a blend of 85 percent denatured ethyl alcohol and 15 percent gasoline, and B20, an alternative fuel containing a blend of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum diesel.
