Stender criticizes Governor’s Conference for Women in light of Christie cuts to services

TRENTON – Assemblywoman Linda Stender, (D-22), Scotch Plains, Tuesday criticized the annual Governor’s Conference for Women – being held today in Atlantic City – in light of cuts made to women’s health services.

“Chris Christie lending his title to this event is nothing more than a farce,” Stender said in a release.  “He has a proven track record of putting ideology before the health needs of women throughout this state, regardless of the consequences.

“We fought tooth and nail for the past year to find alternative funding sources and solutions to avoid his devastating cuts for women’s health and family planning centers.  Each solution was ignored while the Governor took center stage with one of the most conservative groups in our state and joined them in vehemently opposing a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions.”

Stender said the governor should restore cuts made to health care services for women most in need of them.
