Flavorwire is very excited about Tommy Mottola’s foray into the art business. (The former music industry exec opened his Hamptons gallery last weekend.) Mottola’s done a lot to launch the careers of pop artists, Flavorwire points out; who’s to say he can’t do the same for visual artists?
But what form would that take? The site makes some tongue-in-cheek suggestions, and here’s where the whole thing gets a bit wacky: John Currin lunchboxes? Richard Prince nicotine patches? Tracey Emin mattresses? Jeff Koons pet toys?
Okay, the notion of a Richard Serra line for Lego is kind of cute. But Damien Hirst snow globes? Ew. That’s just wrong. Besides, Damien Hirst is too busy working for…the music industry!
