That we-don’t-know-what-to-call-it Broadway play starring Chris Rock (the Tony announcers called it The Mother With the Hat, which is an apt descriptor of Queen Elizabeth if not a brazenly funny drama about drug addiction, recouped its investment, as was announced today. The presence of Mr. Rock surely helped (or–did they? Plenty of superstars don’t soar on Broadway; just ask Ben Stiller), but the play was further aided along by glowing reviews for the rest of the cast and, perhaps, the sort of buzz that unspeakable profanity (okay, the missing word in the title is Motherfucker) can buy.
